Free Breakfast Club Allergy Training Launched to Help Schools Keep Children with Food Allergies Safe

Natasha’s Foundation has launched FREE breakfast club allergy training to help school staff manage food allergies, prevent allergic reactions and create safer, more inclusive environments for children.

Available through Allergy School, our food allergy education programme, the expert-led training has been developed with support from our partners High Speed Training and school caterer, Chartwells.

As the Government expands FREE breakfast clubs across primary schools in England, ensuring staff understand food allergies, allergen management and anaphylaxis has never been more important.

Natasha's Foundation launches free allergy training for all schools

Why is food allergy training important for school breakfast clubs?

Breakfast clubs help children start their school day with a nutritious meal while making mornings easier for families.

But for parents and carers of children with food allergies, they can also bring additional worries.

Will staff understand their child's allergies? Will the food provided be safe? Will they know how to prevent allergen cross-contact? And will their child be able to participate safely alongside their friends?

With 1 in 13 children living with a diagnosed food allergy, allergy awareness and training are essential wherever food is prepared, handled or served in schools.

Food allergies can cause serious and potentially life-threatening reactions, including anaphylaxis. Staff need the knowledge and confidence to recognise risks, follow appropriate allergy management procedures and respond effectively in an emergency.

No child should have to miss out on breakfast clubs because they have a food allergy.

What does the FREE breakfast club allergy training cover?

The training is designed to help school staff understand and manage food allergy risks within breakfast club settings.

It supports greater awareness of:

  • Food allergies and the risks associated with allergic reactions.

  • Common food allergens and safe allergen management.

  • Preventing cross-contact during food preparation and service.

  • Creating safe and inclusive environments for children with food allergies.

  • Recognising allergic reactions and understanding how to respond.

By strengthening food allergy awareness, all schools can build staff confidence and help reassure families that their children's allergies are understood.

Supporting food allergy safety and inclusion in schools

Every child deserves to feel safe, included and able to participate fully in school life.

This means having appropriate allergy management procedures in place, ensuring staff understand their responsibilities and making food allergy safety part of everyday school practice.

Through Allergy School, Natasha’s Foundation provides FREE food allergy education, training and practical resources for early years settings, primary and secondary schools, and out-of-school clubs.

Our aim is to give education staff the knowledge and tools they need to protect children with food allergies while supporting their confidence, independence and inclusion.

How to access FREE breakfast club allergy training

The training is available now to teachers, teaching assistants, breakfast club supervisors, school leaders and catering teams.

Parents and carers can also help by sharing this resource with their child's school or breakfast club. Simply making staff aware that support is available can make a meaningful difference.

Together, we can help ensure every child starts their school day feeling safe, included and ready to learn.

Because no child should be excluded from breakfast clubs because of a food allergy.
