Schools in England must provide allergy awareness training for all staff for the first time, under new statutory guidance announced by the Department for Education. From September 2026, all schools will be required to stock spare adrenaline auto-injector (AAIs), have allergy and anaphylaxis training and robust allergy policies in place. Anita Rani invited Tanya Ednan-Laperouse OBE, Natasha’s mother and our charity’s co-founder to discuss food allergy safety in schools and the work of Natasha’s Foundation.

Allergies in Schools : How to Support Teachers, Leaders and Students

After the tragic death of 15-year-old Natasha Ednan-Laperouse in 2016 from a severe allergic reaction, her parents founded The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation. Their campaign led to the introduction of Natasha’s Law in October 2021, requiring full ingredient labelling on all prepacked foods.

In this episode, Tanya Ednan-Laperouse OBE joins NAHT’s James Bowen to discuss the Foundation’s free allergy training for schools through the Allergy School programme. She explains how allergy awareness in schools and simple policies can help keep pupils with food allergies safe.
