UK’s First National Allergy Strategy Launched in Parliament
A Major Step Forward for People Living with Allergies
The UK’s first National Allergy Strategy has been launched in Parliament, marking a major step forward for the allergy community.
Taking place during Allergy Awareness Week (20-26 April 2026), the event brought together more than 150 attendees, including government ministers, MPs, clinicians, charities, healthcare professionals, and people living with allergies. All were united by a shared goal: to improve the lives of millions affected by allergic disease across the UK.

What Is the National Allergy Strategy?
The National Allergy Strategy sets out a clear, coordinated plan to address the growing allergy crisis in the UK. Developed by leading organisations and experts, it outlines the urgent changes needed across healthcare, policy, and public awareness.
Professor Adam Fox OBE, Chair of the National Allergy Strategy Group, highlighted key priorities including:
Improving access to allergy care and specialist services
Increasing awareness and education around allergic disease
Strengthening systems to better support people living with allergies
Driving a consistent, UK-wide approach to allergy prevention and management
The strategy provides a roadmap for governments across all four nations to follow, ensuring a more joined-up and effective response to allergic disease.
The National Allergy Strategy Group (NASG), is a coalition of leading allergy organisations, clinicians, charities and patient voices, including Natasha’s Foundation, BSACI, Allergy UK, Anaphylaxis UK, and leading allergy specialists and healthcare professionals.
Why This Matters
Allergic disease affects a significant proportion of the UK population, yet services and support have historically been fragmented and under-resourced.
For families and individuals living with food allergies and other allergic conditions, this strategy represents long overdue recognition and a real opportunity for change.
However, publication alone is not enough.
The focus must now shift to delivery.
For the millions of people living with allergies in the UK, this cannot become another report that sits on a shelf. It must lead to meaningful, measurable improvements in everyday life, from safer food environments to better access to care.
A Collective Effort Across the Allergy Community
The launch reflects years of collaboration and dedication across the sector. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to making this moment possible, including:
The National Allergy Strategy Group and over 150 experts and stakeholders
We were also pleased to hear from Sharon Hodgson, Minister for Public Health and Prevention, who spoke at the event and met with families, campaigners, and advocates who have worked tirelessly to bring this issue to the forefront.
A Moment of Progress and a Call to Action
This launch felt like a genuine moment of progress.
But it must also be a turning point.
Now is the time for governments, healthcare systems, and wider society to act on the recommendations set out in the strategy. Only through delivery can we create a future where people living with allergies are safer, better supported, and fully included.
