How the Natasha Clinical Trial is Changing Food Allergy Care
Last week, our team were back to visit the Southampton Clinical Research Facility, to see first-hand how our groundbreaking Natasha Clinical Trial is researching treatments to support people with food allergies.
Natasha’s Foundation team visited Southampton Natasha Clinical Trial site
Children as young as two are taking part in the £2.7 million Natasha Clinical Trial across 9 NHS hospitals, including Southampton. The trial is testing whether commonly available foods can be used to treat severe peanut or cow’s milk allergies - an approach which, if successful, has the potential to transform the treatment of food allergies across the NHS.
Our team were joined by partners Sysco, Costa Coffee & Delice De France, to see firsthand how their crucial funding is enabling vital research and supporting participants.
They also had the opportunity to hear from Sam, aged 18 and one of the eldest participants on the trial, who shared his personal experiences so far. Sam’s openness gave a unique perspective of life on the trial and the impact the research is having on participants’ confidence and daily lives. While the full trial results are still pending, Sam, has already gained huge confidence in managing his peanut allergy through the support of the clinicians and the trial, and is beginning to plan his first solo trip abroad- a significant milestone that highlights the positive influence on his independence and quality of life.
We are hugely grateful to the entire Southampton research team for welcoming us, and to our partners whose commitment is driving forward this landmark trial.
Initial results from The Natasha Clinical Trial are expected in 2027.
