The harsh reality is that if you or a loved one has food allergies, you will know that it is more expensive to buy food groceries than if you don't have to avoid specific allergens. This is sadly not news. However, as more people are struggling to make ends meet due to the additional burden of the cost-of-living crisis we are living in, it has never been harder to be able to afford the foods you have no choice but to buy.
FSA (Food Standards Agency) has conducted 2 studies looking into this very subject. They looked at the quality of life and people's willingness to pay more for 'safe' foods, and what the financial costs to individuals with food allergies and hypersensitivities are. The research focused on costs associated with grocery shopping, eating out, time off work and the time invested in researching labels and meal preparation etc.
