“Natasha’s Law has Given Me Freedom to Live Safely”
Jayden Poole, 17, has a milk allergy and was just 13 when Natasha’s Law came into force. Before the law, outings to bakeries or sandwich shops were stressful for Jayden and his family because food labels couldn’t be trusted.
Thanks to clear, transparent labelling, Jayden now feels safer, freer, and able to enjoy everyday moments without constant worry.
Jayden Poole, 17 - Allergic to milk
Jayden’s Story:
“Natasha's Law has changed things for me in a big way. Before Natasha’s Law was introduced, my mum would not let me eat anything from bakeries and sandwich shops because the labelling couldn't be relied on. When we went out for the day as a family, we would always have to take a packed lunch for me so we could be sure the food was safe for me to eat.
“Since the introduction of Natasha's Law, things are much easier. Sandwich shops and bakeries are an option for me now and printed allergy information always makes me feel much safer than relying on staff. I can be much more spontaneous and have more freedom to live a normal life safely – I don’t need to plan what I eat in advance, carry food with me at all times, or go home early because I need to eat.
“Natasha’s Law is fantastic and has made such a big difference to me and my life. Thank you.” - Jayden Poole
Allergen labelling matters
Clear Food Labelling Makes a Real Difference
Before 2021, food that was made and pre-packed for sale on-site such as in sandwich shops and café's, didn't need to list any food ingredients if they didn't want to. They could decide themselves what they wanted to say on the packaging if anything at all.
Natasha’s Law ensures that pre-packed foods in the UK clearly list the top 14 allergens, helping families like Jayden’s feel safe and confident. It has transformed how young people with food allergies experience everyday life, from school trips to family days out.
